Recently Yahoo has said that they have reset an undisclosed number of passwords for accounts after detecting a campaign for a hack attack. Yahoo may be forcing users to use second sign in verification in order to help protect their users and their accounts from these attacks. This verification would send a six digit code to the users mobile device if they have one registered.
